Finally, in another post on this topic, I read that xd50 requires regular use of Evinrude Carbon Guard Cleaner with every tank of gas and “a full decarb on the motor around every hours”, but xd does not. Am I right in assuming that the TC-W3 setting just pumps more oil through the engine than the xd setting? Don’t xxd100 that you have to use XD oil only at that setting. Thanks to you and Bill for the very helpful info. Lots of questions but as noted these engines are a huge investment and I want it to last a very long time.

Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods.
